Free family life coaching sessions for Croydon parents

Throughout March, Parentline Plus in Croydon is launching a series of free family life coaching sessions for parents of children aged between eight and 13 years old to tackle the impact of aggressive behaviour on the families and the wider community.

Parents and carers concerned about their child’s violent or aggressive behaviour when alone or with school or college friends are encouraged to attend the free sessions to receive practical one-to-one and group advice that will provide workable solutions to the problem of childhood aggression.

Heather is the parent of a 12 year old son who has just started senior school in Dulwich.

“I was involved with the initial focus group and was able share my experience of previous parenting courses and the types of life-style classes that I would like to see made available in Croydon so that the best support can be given. It’s really important to equip parents with street awareness and to recognise the tell tale signs so that parents can develop their own ways of preventing their son or daughter getting in with the wrong crowd. I would encourage any parents interested to come along.”

Croydon based Parentline Plus Area Manager, Valerie Outram, said:

“The skills shared at Parentline Plus’s Family Life Coaching Sessions are designed to re-unite families, improve family communication, increase parental coping skills and build on parental confidence whilst equipping adults with a clearer understanding of youth violence and related gang issues. Previous participants, concerned about gang culture – whether from influential friends, online activity, or incidents at school or the home environment have found Parentline Plus’s sessions to be invaluable in understanding and dealing with anger and promoting self- confidence and self-esteem.”

Parentline Plus’ trained advisors will deliver 5 Family Coaching Group Sessions at The Archbishop Lanfranc school, Mitcham Road, Croydon, Surrey CR9 3AS, between 10.00 – 12.00 noon. The first Session is on March 1st and places are limited so book early to avoid disappointment

Also available throughout the borough are Individual coaching sessions which will last 45 minutes and up to 6 sessions are planned on a weekly basis to suit the needs and pre-existing commitments of the parent/carer.

Places for individual sessions are limited to the first 50 parents and carers of children (aged 8-13) that contact Parentline Plus. Both group and individual sessions are offered free of charge to participants thanks to funding and support from the City Bridge Trust.
