Family Lives respond to speech by the prime minister on protecting children online

‘Family Lives welcomes David Cameron’s announcement to restrict extreme internet pornography.  In particular that the possession of violent porn is to be outlawed and that illegal image searches are to be blocked.  Parents, education professionals and business need to work together to protect children from disturbing images that distort young people’s ideas and expectations when in relationships.  We also welcome the Prime Minister’s encouragement of family friendly filters.  It is encouraging that by the end of next year millions of households will be contacted by their internet providers to decide whether to activate "family friendly filters" to restrict adult material. As new streams of social media channels flood into the family home, Family Lives encourages ALL parents to have conversations with their children about the consequences of inappropriate online activity. Parents can contact Family Lives and equip themselves with support and information on how to talk to their kids about engaging in risky behaviour.”
