The Afghan Families Project

Family Lives and the Afghan Academy International are supporting Afghani Families to overcome isolation and to create more stable, happier families that are more likely to stay together.

Building on foundations laid by, and working with, the Afghan Academy International we will create a community-led, befriending programme that harnesses the passion, energy and skills of volunteers from the Afghan and the wider community. Each year a team of 10 volunteer befrienders will support 20 families for up to six months, building confidence and parenting and practical skills in families that make for better family relationships and social interaction.

Established in the 1980s, the Afghan Academy International is highly connected in the Ealing Afghan community. It runs cultural and education activities, signposting and networking for the community, and provides confidential advice and counselling. We expect the combination of these two family focussed organisations to make a significant contribution through high quality volunteer support and pooled knowledge and expertise.

This good work is funded raised by National Lottery players for good causes. It's thanks to them that we are amongst the charities who receive more than £500 million each year.
