Parent Child Home Programme (PCHP)

New programme for families with a 2 year old in Ealing, Nottingham and Newcastle

Family Lives Early Learning Volunteers will visit families twice a week for half an hour each to equip them with the skills and materials they need to encourage early literacy and language in their young children. This prepares children for when they start school, giving them the skills to interact with their teachers and peers and to help them learn. Children are then better able to keep up and do well in their future education and parents learn how to become their child’s first teacher. Home visitors bring a new toy or book each week for children to keep and play with between visits.

Family Lives are proud to bring the PCHP to the UK from America where it has been helping families to prepare their children for learning at school and for success in life since 1965.

Coventry Volunteer Visiting Service

In an exciting partnership with Coventry City Council, we are providing one-to-one support for families who are going through challenging times and need help to find a positive way forward. By matching parents with a trained volunteer, we are able to give families support to work out their own solutions for a better future. All of our volunteers are vetted and fully trained – they are good listeners who don’t judge and help parents to achieve their goals. Volunteers visit the family once a week for six months, offering emotional support and a practical hand getting started with tasks. They help families in many ways; it might be support to find a family routine that works for them, or going with a parent the first time they attend a children’s centre. It can be assisting with filling in forms or making a family budget. Volunteers always help parents to engage with the Social Care teams that are supporting the family. In return, volunteers are supported by project staff and have regular supervision sessions as well as attending practice development groups with peers.

We are always looking for volunteers to join our team in Coventry. If you are interested, please email or call 07885 361697 for an application pack and information on upcoming training courses.

If you are a professional or practitioner who would like to make a referral, please email or call 07885 361697.

We urgently need volunteers to join our team of Befrienders  in Nottingham who support families struggling with parenting issues.  All you need is some idea of the issues that family life can cause and the desire to help a family make positive changes. - Email for an application form or contact

Every year, we support families to work through issues such as poverty, behavioural problems, health issues, problems with services and schools, relationship issues, communication breakdowns and countless other issues. We could not support these families without the dedication, commitment and passion of over 200 volunteers.

“It’s difficult to put into words how much volunteering and then working for Family Lives helped me – it was pivotal in getting me to where I am today, what with all the training and encouragement I received.”

Volunteers are vital to Family Lives and we have a wide range of opportunities available in many different areas of the country. Find out more about the different types of volunteer roles and where these are available.
