The Afghan Families Project

Being awarded National Lottery funding is a huge achievement and great news for the local community in Ealing. The Afghan Families Project aims to support Afghani families to overcome isolation and to create more stable, happier families that are more likely to stay together.

Building on foundations we will create a community-led, befriending programme that harnesses the passion, energy and skills of volunteers from the Afghan and wider community. Each year a team of 10 volunteer befrienders will support 20 families for up to six months.

Family Lives are immensely proud of their volunteers and the difference they make to local communities. In Ealing, through this project, they will build confidence in parenting and practical skills in families that make for better family relationships and social interaction.

This good work is funded by money raised by National Lottery players for good causes. It's thanks to them that we are amongst the charities who receive more than £500 million each year.

Family Lives and the Afghan Academy International are now part of a family of fantastic organisations that are making communities across the UK better places to be

Established in the 1980s, the Afghan Academy International is highly connected in the Ealing Afghan community. It runs cultural and education activities, signposting and networking for the community, and provides confidential advice and counselling. We expect the combination of these two family focussed organisations to make a significant contribution through high quality volunteer support and pooled knowledge and expertise.
